Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position within the research group of Professor Andrew Lever to work with him and Dr Ulrich Desselberger studying the mechanism of viral assembly in the important human pathogen rotavirus - a major cause of acute gastroenteritis in children worldwide. We study the cell biology of the virus following on from our recent description that the virus utilises cellular lipid droplets to replicate. In addition we investigate the RNA structures involved in control of replication and encapsidation of the 11 segments of the viral genome. Work is also ongoing to develop a reverse genetics system for this virus.
The group is based within the Department of Medicine at Addenbrooke's hospital wherein are other research groups studying human viral pathogens, and in close proximity to the University Division of Virology with whom there are strong collaborative links.
Applicants must be highly motivated with well developed communication skills and possess previous experience in cell and molecular biology. The position is available immediately for 2 years initially.
